Australian Finance calculators

Superannuation, HECS/HELP, stamp duty, CGT, and Centrelink tools

19 calculators · 5 guides

Australian money rules do not translate from overseas calculators. Superannuation guarantee, HECS-HELP repayment thresholds, the Medicare levy and its surcharge, franking credits, the capital gains discount, state stamp duty scales and first home buyer concessions all have no United States equivalent, and using an American tool for them produces confidently wrong numbers.

These calculators use current Australian Taxation Office and state revenue office figures, state which financial year they apply to, and link the source. Where a rule changed recently. The superannuation guarantee reaching twelve per cent, the move to marginal HELP repayments, indexed surcharge thresholds. The page says what changed and when.

Questions about australian finance calculators

Which financial year do these use?
Each Australian calculator shows its data year on the page, and the figures are reviewed every July when rates, thresholds and indexed amounts change. If you need a prior year, for an amended return or a back-dated calculation, the numbers here will not match, because only the current year is modelled.
Why is my take-home pay different from my payslip?
Payroll withholds tax using ATO withholding schedules per pay period, which approximate your annual liability rather than computing it exactly. Salary sacrifice, reportable fringe benefits, study loan withholding, extra deductions, private health rebate tiers and the tax offsets you claim all shift the final figure. The annual reconciliation happens in your tax return, which is why a refund or bill appears there.
Is stamp duty really that different between states?
Yes, dramatically. Each state and territory sets its own scale, its own concessions for first home buyers, and its own treatment of off-the-plan, new builds, vacant land and foreign purchasers. On the same purchase price the duty can differ by tens of thousands of dollars across borders, so always select the correct state and confirm with that state's revenue office calculator before settlement.
Do these replace advice from an accountant?
No. They model the main rules and ignore the rest: trusts, companies, partnerships, carried-forward losses, small business concessions, Division 293, personal deductible contributions, residency changes and much more. Use the result to understand the shape of your position and to ask a better question of a registered tax agent.
