Finance calculators

Loan, mortgage, paycheck, 401k, inflation, investment, and tax calculators

38 calculators · 7 guides

This is the largest group on the site because money questions are where an estimate changes a decision: whether a repayment fits your budget, what a rate difference is really worth over thirty years, how long a debt takes to clear, whether renting or buying comes out ahead over your actual time horizon.

Each tool shows the payment, the total interest and the schedule behind it, so you can see how much of an early payment is interest rather than principal. Where a calculator follows a particular country's tax or retirement rules it carries a region badge; the loan, savings and investment tools are jurisdiction-neutral arithmetic that works anywhere.

Questions about finance calculators

Why does my lender quote a slightly different repayment?
Three reasons, in order of size. Lenders often charge interest daily and debit monthly rather than applying a clean monthly rate, so the cents differ. Fees such as monthly account keeping, lenders mortgage insurance or a package fee may be added to the repayment or capitalised into the loan. And a comparison rate bundles fees into a single figure that is not the rate used to calculate your payment. Use these tools to compare offers, then confirm the exact figure in writing.
Should I look at the monthly payment or the total interest?
Both, because they pull in opposite directions. A longer term lowers the payment and raises total interest, sometimes by more than the original loan. Decide affordability on the payment, then choose the shortest term you can service comfortably. The schedule table on each loan page shows where the crossover sits for your numbers.
Do these calculators account for inflation?
Only where the page says so. Loan and savings tools work in nominal dollars. The actual amounts that change hands. To think in today's purchasing power, run the result through the inflation calculator, or subtract your inflation assumption from the return rate before you enter it to get a real rather than nominal projection.
Is a 0% interest rate handled properly?
Yes. Interest-free promotional finance is a real and common case, and every amortisation tool here has an explicit zero-rate branch that divides the balance evenly across the term rather than producing an error. Extremely large terms are also capped so a shared link cannot hang the page.
