The formula
Imperial: Gross Gallons = (Field Area x 27,154 gallons/acre-inch x Inches Needed) / (Efficiency / 100). Metric: Gross Litres = (Field Area x 10,000 litres/ha-mm x mm Needed) / (Efficiency / 100). System efficiency accounts for evaporation, wind drift, runoff, and distribution non-uniformity.
